ParentCamp will be presenting at this year’s KASA 2024 event in Louisville, Kentucky. The two-day event is in its 56th year and provides opportunities to engage with education leaders from all over the state.
The Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) and the Center for Education Leadership has led the implementation of the state’s new Professional Growth and Effectiveness System for school superintendents, principals and teachers. As the unified professional organization representing all education leaders, KASA draws upon the strength of diversity to best serve the needs of children and members by the continuous improvement of education through professional development of strong leaders, advocacy for the welfare of children, and effective participation in shaping education policy.
The theme for this year’s institute is Rooted-Resilient-Ready Leaders. ParentCamp will be presenting thought-provoking questions in small-group dialogue experiences tailored to reshape how schools approach engaging families, students and community. “Participants will leave thinking, ‘why didn’t I think of that’ or ‘that makes so much sense and I can put that into practice now,’” said ParentCamp Vice President Laura Gilchrist. “The experience will transcend the conventional and transform the family-school-community leadership perspective.”
She continued, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same results. If that is so, why do we always do the same thing over and over again when it comes to family-school-community engagement and expect different results? This session will connect TRANSFORMATIONAL family-school-community engagement that will change a school’s ecosystem.”
Families, educators and community members will build relational trust which is the root of resilience and allows for collaboration to take hold. Eventually leading to the holy grail of impacts of student achievement—family-school-community collective efficacy. “When parents KNOW their school leaders,” said Gilchrist, “they are willing to stand behind them, support them and work on the tough issues that face our kids and schools.”
The sold-out event will take place July 24-26 at Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky.
